Spring Perennials Native to Ledyard, CT

Spring in Ledyard, CT.

Spring is clearly on its way in Ledyard. As I drive along Spicer Hill Road, I notice the turf coming back to life, showing signs of new life. On Iron Street, buds are bursting on shrubbery. The residents on Seabury Avenue might be looking out onto their lawns and maybe thinking of core aeration to rejuvenate their turf. Everyone has seen results; although only temporary, it looks like a large flock of geese camped out for the weekend.

But here at Lawn Science, we get better results with our own lawn aeration program, using liquid aeration, a formula personally developed by the owner of Lawn Science, with a proprietary formula of kelp, compost tea and humates.

What are Humates?

Humates are organic substances that occur from natural decomposition of plant and animal tissues in the soil. The decomposition of these substances create organic minerals that are rocket fuel for your grass, plants and other shrubbery in your yard. They also make these important minerals like phosphorus and nitrogen, more absorbable by plant life. That means you don’t need to add as much fertilizer to your soil. With humates, the plants have access to more of the minerals they need. And it’s all organic!

Optimal nutrition for Ledyard, CT

Our program gives the turf optimal nutrition. The lawns on Mathewson Mill Road are looking alive, but what lawn couldn’t benefit from an organic based lawn care program? I go along Hewitt Road and I notice the grass cutting companies and yard maintenance companies getting to work, cleaning up from the winter and preparing for the busy growth season.

Why Local Family-Owned Lawn Care is Better

Out on the roads in Ledyard, local lawn care companies are out in full force, too. Maybe you’re wondering what a local family-owned lawn care company like Lawn Science can do for the turf on Shewville Road and Gallup Hill Road? Things look good now, but with the coming heat and humidity of summer, your lawn can become stressed if it’s not properly fed. This gives the advantage to any weed and crabgrass seeds to take hold and take over your lawn.  Even with a sprinkler system in place, the grass has a hard time resisting weeds, fungus and pests that want to move into the neighborhood.

I’m on my way to  Meeting House Lane, seeing more green grass and budding foundation plants. Maybe some people are thinking that Scott’s Turf Builder is the best they can offer to their property. I can tell you that the 5 step organic based lawn care program that the turf care leaders at Lawn Science have developed is far superior to “lawn care in a bag.”

We have spent the last 35 years attending classes and seminars, even experimenting on their own lawns. That has helped us carefully fine tune a program that can give your turf every advantage during all stages of growth. I finish up my tour of Ledyard with my car windows open, taking in the fresh spring air. I imagine a town with healthy green lawns, ready for a whole season of family fun.

    Foamflower Ground Cover

Foamflower – throw this native some shade, and you’ll have a beautiful ground cover for years. Because they thrive in soil with rich organic matter, make sure you are caring for your soil with an organic lawn care program.

  2. Wild Geranium – this stinky little plant helps keep pesky nibblers, like rabbits, away from your edibles. If you’re a gardener with carrots, cucumbers, and lettuces, the geranium is a must have. While geraniums are often featured in beautiful crimson tones, the wild geranium usually comes in the softer lilacs, pinks, and whites. This CT native perennial is the perfect addition to your garden if you want to attract pollinators as well.
